Primary school headteacher gives parents code of conduct after social media abuse

The Mirror is reporting that a primary school headteacher has sent out a code of conduct to parents after she received e-mails that contained “abusive personal comments” about staff.

Tonia Crossman has written to parents about “harsh judgements and opinions” on social media commenting on how Emmer Green Primary School is run.

Four more qualifications culled but GCSE geology and A level creative writing amongst those spared

The Times is reporting that while geology and creative writing are among four subjects given a late reprieve in an Ofqual cull of GCSE and A-level qualifications, four others are to be scrapped…

The move is part of the ongoing attempt by Ofqual to remove qualifications either deemed to overlap with other subjects or seen as unsuitable to more rigorous assessments being introduced to create tougher standards…

Legislation on taking over ‘coasting’ schools planned ‘within weeks’

The TES is reporting that new laws to give Nicky Morgan greater powers to intervene in “coasting” schools will be unveiled within weeks…

The plans, due to be announced in the Queen’s Speech later this month, would allow the government to force any school judged to “require improvement” by Ofsted to become an academy or be placed under new leadership…

A source close to Ms Morgan told TES that enacting the plans, which have been criticised by headteachers’ and teachers’ unions, would be the Department for Education’s first priority under the new Tory administration.
